Scared? Just Ask
Just ask! You have to ask it’s plain and simple. Walk into a McDonald’s without asking for your order and you will starve. Asking is the key to success in all businesses. Just Ask, Ask, Ask! Why is it so hard to ask for your promotion, ask for the sale, ask for the date, ask for the discount, or ask for more business? Why are you afraid? Is it the fear of rejection? The fear of hearing no, looking foolish, or any other things in your head?
If you don’t A-S-K you don’t G-E-T. Even the bible in Luke 11:9 and Matthew 7:7 says ask and you shall receive. Asking is the key to realizing your vision. You need people to help you move forward. How will they know how to serve you if they don’t know what you want. Again back to McDonald’s, if you don’t ask for a burger you will no get a burger.
Don’t assume that you will get a no. Take the risk of asking for what you exactly want. Think about it. If you are asking for something it’s because you don’t possess it. You do not have the thing that you desire and that is why you are asking. Now, if you don’t ask it really doesn’t matter because you don’t have it. If you ask and it’s a no it’s the same as not asking anyway. You still don’t have it. You are in the same position. You don’t lose because you don’t have want you want. But if it is a yes, you win. Pretty simple.
Asking shouldn’t be hard. You request things everyday at fast food restaurants, stores, on the phone, through text messages, and online. People request stuff from you. Fast food restaurants try to upsell on extra stuff all of the time. Do you want fries with that order. You say yes, they make more money, you say no, they still make money. You have spent a lifetime asking now apply that same principle to your business.
5 Principles of Just Ask
1. Ask As If You Expect To Get It
Have a positive expectancy. Ask like it has already been given. Be like a kid asking Santa Claus for gifts. They believe it will be under the Christmas tree. Kids believe they will get what they ask for. If not they ask for something else. Ask as if you expect a yes.
2. Assume You Can
Throw out the word can’t. Negative assumptions will stop you from asking. Expect that you can get the sale, upgrades, help, and discounts. Do not assume against yourself.
3. Ask Someone Who Can Give It To You
Qualify the person you are asking. Who has the authority to make the decision? Requesting something from someone who does not have the authorization to give is time-consuming and will zap your confidence. You need to know what needs to happen, who can give, it, who do you need to speak to get it done?
If you walk into a dealership and say sell me a car they are going to ask what year, make, model, color, and how much you want to spend. Or they will sell you the most expensive vehicle because you just ask for a “car”. Vague request gets vague results. When asking for a raise be clear and concise.
Don’t ask like this: “I want a raise.” I will give you a 5 cents raise
Do ask like this: “I want a raise of $300 per month.”
When it comes to getting things done don’t say soon or when it is convenient. Give a specific date and time.
Don’t say, “I want to spend some time with you next week.”
Do say, “I would like to go out for dinner on Saturday night. Will that work for you?”
5. Ask Repeatedly
Persistent asking is necessary. People are going to say no. Rejection is a myth so get past it. Don’t give up. Someone is going to say yes. Why will they say yes? Because you are persistent. When you keep asking even the same person again and again you might get a yes on a different day, they were in a better mood, they finally need what you have to offer, or new data help them say yes.
A statistic by Herbert True a marketing specialist who teaches at Notre Dame University, says 94% of sales people quit after the 4th call. But 60% of all sales happen after the 4th call is made. Just ask! Become an Ask-hole.

Conclusion exercise. Make a list of the things you want. Next to each item write down how much it is going to cost you NOT to ask for it. What is your fear? Write down the benefits you will receive by asking. Then go after it. Just Ask! If you don’t A-S-K you don’t G-E-T. Article Source: Ezine Articles
